The Story

Launched in 2013, The Dan K Show had one goal in mind: to shine a spotlight on the players who make up the Junior hockey landscape. Since then, Dan and Lucas have taken their mission to the world of Youth and Collegiate hockey to ensure that players of all leagues and levels of the game can not only be seen by coaches and scouts, but to improve player’s current hockey experience with the best media team in the business. As The Dan K Show grows to include broadcasting and talent services, highlight reel production, and even administrative support. Dan and Lucas firmly believe that their fully transparent and honest approach to the game and its many facets has been the reason for their success

The Style

The Dan K Show is continuously on the leading edge of hockey coverage and social media analytics. Dan and Lucas have worked for over a decade to craft their unique style of sports broadcasting, and combine an old school radio approach with a high energy “showtime” style that celebrates the best of the modern game of hockey. By understanding the way that the modern world of scouting operates both in-person and on social media platforms, Dan and Lucas are able to shine a huge spotlight on players and programs with a comprehensive social media presence.

Dan K - Host/Owner/Travel Director, The Dan K Show

Considering himself a “Dan-of-all-trades,” Dan Kmiechick has worked in just about every facet of the sports industry.  In addition to creating, owning and hosting “The Dan K Show,” Dan K has also worked for three of the four major US sports networks.  

On-air, he has found success at the high school, collegiate, minor league and professional levels of a wide variety of sports  His witty, humorous, detail-oriented and fast-paced game presentation has made him a favorite of many viewers.

In addition to hosting The Dan K Show, Dan K has served as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for huge events and games all around the country. When not on the mic, Dan K is often tasked with helping events source and hire the best PxP talent from around the country

Before entering the broadcasting world, Dan himself was an athlete playing four years of college baseball.  As a collegiate pitcher, Dan posted a career record of 18-6 with three saves, while serving as a captain for two of his four years.  Following his playing career, Dan earned his Master’s in Management of Sports Industries from the University of New Haven, while serving as a pitching coach for Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut.

Lucas Jones - Host/Owner/Technical Director, The Dan K Show

Lucas goes by many names on a broadcast: Right-hand man, Consigliere, frère from another mère, However, one of his most important title on The Dan K Show is Technical Director, the person responsible for making the the Dan K Show stays at the leading edge of the media world. Lucas can rely on his years of knowledge gained from his years as a touring guitarist, podcast/video editor for various media outlets, and as social media coordinator for previous projects.

Lucas began his broadcasting career in high school, where he served as the technical advisor to many projects undertaken in his media classes. He also served as Dan K’s color commentator on various high school sports, with the pair only narrowly missing their goal of covering every sport the school had to offer. Unfortunately, Lucas was unable to convince the chess team to allow the pair to cover their match.

When not crossing the country calling hockey with The Dan K Show, Lucas is a tutor and college advisor for middle school and high school students looking to further their education so that they can find the right school for their needs. Lucas has a double major from Rutgers University New Brunswick, and routinely can be overheard saying, “Trust me, Rutgers Football is on the way back!”

James Blennau - Contributor

James Blennau is a lifelong hockey fan from East Williston, New York, spawning his hardcore Islanders fandom, and studies journalism at Quinnipiac University. A storyteller by trade, he has experience in print, broadcast and digital media through the school's student media outlets, especially Q30 Television's sports department through studio production and reporting. 

An aficionado of college hockey through his experience watching and covering teams at Quinnipiac, he specializes in covering the college game. Still, he sees himself as a versatile storyteller not just by media but by levels of the sport. 

He aspires to become a great leader and storyteller within sports television production, building his and the Dan K Show's brand through the partnership while improving his resume and skill set during the working experience.
