Dan K Show NCDC Player of the Week
Ryan Murphy LW (2002) – Islanders Hockey Club – North Division
Former Richmond Generals star Ryan Murphy has had a torrid start to his 2020-2021 campaign with the Islanders Hockey Club, sitting at 4th overall in the NCDC in points. Over the past week, Murphy helped lead his IHC side to a huge week nabbing 4 points over two contests (vs. South Shore Kings and vs. Boston Advantage). Murphy and a young IHC squad should continue to find success all season long under 2019-2020 All-Dan K Coach of the Year Tim Kyrkostas. Murphy is a talented winger with a nose for the back of the net, especially on special teams. Like all Generals products, Murphy is a proven winner and an all-around asset for IHC.
Honorable Mentions: While Rockets Hockey Club star and former Jersey Hitmen forward Connor Tait may have won the Dan K Show Star of the Game this past Friday night, it is his teammate Clark Kerner who gets the Honorable Mention nod this week. Kerner notched 4 points over two victories against a difficult to deal with Philadelphia Hockey Club side. Another huge congrats goes to Twin City Thunder forward Nick Rashkovsky who got his 2020-2021 campaign started with a bang, tallying 3 goals in a weekend sweep of the South Shore Kings. Rashkovsky is a veteran that will play a big role for Dan Hodge’s revamped Thunder attack. Watch for the Thunder to make noise all season long in the NCDC North Division.
Dan K Show Premier Player of the Week
Jozef Martancik LW (2000) – Chicago Cougars – Midwest East
Jozef Martancik is not human. In the words of Lil Wayne, “we are not the same, I am a martian,” because his performance early this season has been out of this world! Martancik doesn’t just lead the Premier in points currently, he is on pace to start lapping the field with 34 points in 11 games! In three games this weekend Martancik tallied 9 goals (ridiculous), 7 assists (insane) for a total of 16 points (WOW!). There is no word yet if a report has been filed with the amount of missing hats in Chi-town directly due to Martancik’s 2020-2021 start. Any scout that has not seen this veteran skate is absolutely missing out. Martancik is not just one of the best scorers in the USPHL Premier, he is one of the best scorers on the planet; period!
Honorable Mention: Lights, Cam, Croteau! Call this guy Hollywood because former South Shore King and current Florida Junior Blades center Cam Croteau is not afraid of the spotlight. With 8 goals and 2 assists already this year, Croteau had his best performance this past weekend with a 4 goal output over two games vs. the Atlanta Mad Hatters, including a hat trick. Croteau had incredible hands and finding the back of the net comes easy to this 2001 birth year. Look out for the Blades as the season progresses!
Dan K Show Elite Player of the Week
Gage Lonergan D (2003) – Bridgewater Jr. Bandits – North Division
Defensemen never get love in these things! Luckily for Gage Lonergan, we here at The Dan K Show appreciate a good defensive performance, especially when you can add 6 points on the offensive end. In a two game set with the Springfield Pics, Lonergan notched 3 goals and 3 assists, including a game-winner. Lonergan is a young two-way star that should have many eyes on him throughout the season due to his versatility on the defensive end.
Honorable Mention: The Jersey Hitmen always sport great goaltending at all levels, so it comes as no surprise that Hitmen netminder Salvatore Benvenuto (2002) has solidified himself as one of the top netminders in the USPHL Elite. On October 17th, Benvenuto stopped 41 of 42 shots en route to a big divisional victory over their in-state rivals the Jersey Shore Whalers. Benvenuto is a calming force for these Hitmen between the pipes sporting a 2-0-1 record early this season with a stellar .965 saves percentage and a shutout.
